What do we want in Grimsby?

A municipality exists to create the conditions where people and communities can flourish.

Simply put, we want a Town where Quality of Life matters.

Instead of making dozens of unrelated promises, I will work with Council and the mayor to make every policy become part of one coherent story: Community.

Government’s role is to lay the groundwork for citizens to succeed then get out of their way.

Community as Infrastructure

We invest millions in physical infrastructure. We spend taxpayer dollars to stimulate the local economy and we talk about Roads, Pipes, Buildings, Parks, Trails, etc.

But there is another kind of infrastructure that is just as important.

Social Infrastructure or Community.

Neighbourhoods can take more control of their communities and organize by using local talent and knowledge.

Social Infrastructure depends on

• Trust
• Relationships
• Shared identity
• Mutual respect
• Volunteerism
• Leadership
• Civic participation

When these are weak, municipalities struggle regardless of how much money they spend.

In Grimsby the best planning tool we have is a community-focused vision of who we are and who we want to be.

Let’s build a Town that’s the envy of everyone else.
