There’s lots of talk about managing growth or creating “Responsible Growth” but what does that really mean?
Growth affects:
• traffic congestion
• overcrowded schools
• recreation facilities
• parks and trails
• healthcare access
• emergency response times
• stormwater flooding
• tree canopy
• neighbourhood character
• municipal finances
We cannot continue to absorb thousands of new residents in the west end of town and pretend it won’t affect the rest of Grimsby. Ward 1 is as far away from the projected hyper-growth area as you can get in Grimsby but we will be deeply affected by the choices made in the west end.
First of all, growth should pay for the infrastructure it requires so existing taxpayers aren’t left carrying the bill.
Town Hall’s responsibility is to negotiate from a position of strength so every new development delivers lasting benefits for the entire community.
It is the Town’s duty to ensure that development progresses with community-building in mind.
We must ensure that every new neighbourhood has:
• roads that work
• enough parks
• schools nearby
• emergency services
• stormwater infrastructure
• community gathering places
• protection for existing neighbourhoods
Good communities don’t just happen. They require proper planning.
Residents deserve to understand not only where growth is happening, but how the Town plans to pay for new services and infrastructure.
We have one chance to get this right.
That’s responsible growth. That’s common sense.
If you believe Grimsby deserves growth that’s planned, transparent, and financially responsible, I will be this voice on Council. Together, we can build a stronger community and a stronger future.
