Good government begins with good information.
Every year, Council approves millions of dollars in spending, makes decisions that shape our neighbourhoods, and sets priorities for the future of Grimsby. Yet many of those decisions are based on lengthy reports that provide only a snapshot in time.
I believe that as the public’s representatives, Council deserves access to relevant data using the best business intelligence tools available.
I will present to Council a plan to develop a Town Performance Dashboard, a business intelligence tool to provide live, objective , easy-to-understand key performance indicators to support Council decision-making.
Businesses use performance dashboards every day because they know that good decisions require reliable information. Municipal governments should do the same.
A functional Town Performance Dashboard would help Council:
- identify problems earlier
- measure whether policies are working
- improve accountability
- increase transparency
- make better use of taxpayer dollars
- focus discussions on evidence rather than speculation
Every indicator should be meaningful, measurable, and reported consistently.
The purpose is not to create more bureaucracy. The purpose is to make better decisions.
